Buying Plants Online: A Health, Pot and Shipping Checklist Beyond the Product Photo

Turn a styled listing into verifiable questions about identity, size, roots, drainage and delivery

İnternetten Bitki Alırken Fotoğraftan Fazlasına Bakın: Sağlık, Saksı ve Kargo Kontrolü

An educational checklist for evaluating a live plant listing and inspecting the delivery without relying on stock, rating or seller hype.

A styled plant photograph shows a possible appearance, not necessarily the exact size, root condition or pot that will arrive; the useful listing answers measurable questions.

Bitki Satış is an educational publication, not a shop or marketplace. This guide does not recommend a seller or claim stock. It explains how readers can translate an attractive page into evidence about plant identity, suitability and delivery risk, then document the parcel before changing the plant's environment.

Confirm identity and the shipped unit

Ask for the botanical name and cultivar where relevant, not only a broad common name. Confirm whether the stated height includes the pot, whether the photo shows one plant or a mature example, and the expected range rather than one exact measurement. Match mature size, light and temperature needs to the actual home before ordering.

Separate growing pot from decorative cover

Listings may show a decorative container while the plant ships in a nursery pot. Ask which is included, the pot diameter and whether water can drain freely. A larger decorative pot does not prove a larger or healthier root system. Request current information about rooting and avoid an unnecessary immediate repot unless condition requires it.

Ask observable health questions

Useful answers describe new growth, leaf damage, pests, root condition and how long the plant has been acclimated, ideally with a current representative image. A few cosmetic marks do not automatically mean poor health; sticky residue, webbing, widespread spotting or a sour waterlogged medium deserves clarification. Guarantees and return rules should be read in writing.

Plan shipping and the first week

Live plants face darkness, movement and temperature change. Ask how the species is secured and protected for the expected weather and how dispatch avoids long closures. Photograph the unopened parcel and plant during unpacking. Isolate it from the collection, inspect leaves and medium, provide appropriate light and avoid combining immediate repotting, feeding and heavy watering without evidence.

Delivery acceptance record

  1. Photograph the sealed parcel and label.
  2. Open promptly using the seller's instructions.
  3. Record breakage, temperature damage or spilled medium.
  4. Inspect both leaf surfaces and pot drainage.
  5. Quarantine and change care gradually.

The strongest buying decision comes from identity, measurable shipment details and a documented arrival—not from a perfect hero image. Keep expectations and care tied to the species actually delivered.
